Imagine, a 13-year-old aspiring broadcaster who is attending Bruce Beck & Ian Eagle Sports Broadcasting Camp for the first time. This individual was severely afraid of speaking in front of people. That changed on a Monday afternoon in July on the campus of Montclair State University, where the camp was held.
You see, WNBC Lead Sports Anchor, Bruce Beck, had the confidence in this young camper, despite his fears. A minute and ½ past before this camper began to read from a Teleprompter for the first time.
The camper mentioned above, is me. 20 years later, I am fortunate enough to write that I am a freelance journalist, whose work has been syndicated on the NBA History Twitter Page. My resume also includes two Hunterdon\Warren\ Sussex County Championships, as an assistant girls’ basketball coach at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, (2015) and Warren Hills Regional High School, my alma mater, (2019).
I am a people person, and my uncanny ability to engage people in conversations and network, which I learned at Bruce Beck & Ian Eagle Sports Broadcasting Camp, has helped in all facets of my life. This skill has allowed me to interview award-winning, and Hall of Fame athletes and journalists. I have attended the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts for their Enshrinement Weekend festivities for the past 12 years. One of these festivities is a press conference. During these yearly press conferences, I have been fortunate enough to interview members of the incoming class. Some of these interviewees include: NBA Commissioner Emeritus, and 2014 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee, David Stern. 2014 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee Alonzo Mourning. 2016 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee Allen Iverson. As you might have noticed from the above video, I use a wheelchair. I was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy when I was 10 days old. I don’t like to highlight my disability, but in this instance I feel it necessary to do so.
